The IAWA morns the recent loss of Dr. Sherwin Carlquist, age 91, one of the largest exponents in Plant Anatomy and arguably the greatest wood anatomist of our times. Sherwin Carlquist has revolutionized botany by studying the interactions of wood anatomy, ecology, developmental and evolutionary biology. His numerous books and over 200 articles leave us a legacy that will never be overlooked and will still trigger new, innovative studies in our field for many years to come.
